April: Dealing With Feelings

During the Month of April our students began learning how to recognize, understand, label, and express their feelings.  We read many stories including:

We also celebrated Poem In Your Pocket Day.  Students in grades K-2nd wrote sense poems about their feelings.

We also read A Giraffe and A Half by Shel Silverstein.

Students made pockets with giraffes after  our study on various types of poems.

This unit of study ended with a school wide poetry reading celebration.  Every student read aloud their sense poem and then we created OUR FEELINGS QUILT OF POEMS.

Each publishing project that we embarked on this month has brought unique learning experiences to all of our students.  Our quilt is hanging in our hallway and all of our poets seem to love to stop by the quilt to read their work to friends.
